How do I add or change my webtext’s due dates for all students?

Managing due dates and grace periods for your entire class

Soomo’s due date manager lets you add due dates directly to the webtext for your class, as well as update them as needed throughout the term.

Note: LMS integrations using LTI 1.3 are designed to limit the sharing of assignment settings from the LMS to linked courseware. If you set or change webtext due dates or grace periods in your LMS, be sure to also update them in the Soomo due date manager to ensure accurate grade delivery.

Scoring after the due date

Once a due date passes, the chapter is closed for credit in the webtext. However, students can still engage with the material and work in the chapter. Late work may appear as completed within the webtext, but it does not count toward their score.

If a student hasn’t completed any work in a chapter by the time the due date has passed, or by the end of a grace period if one is set, a score of zero will automatically be sent to your LMS gradebook.

You can also customize due dates for individual students. For more information, visit our article, How do I add or change my webtext’s due dates for just one student?

Add a due date

Add a grace period

After setting a due date, you may also choose to add a grace period for each chapter.

A grace period is a window of time after the due date when students can still earn credit for completed work. You can choose whether students receive full or reduced credit for work completed during the grace period.

For example, you might set a chapter due date for Sunday at 11:59 PM, then enter a 30% deduction for a three-day grace period. Work students complete in that chapter during the grace period will earn 70% credit.

1. To start, select “Add a grace period” from the Actions menu (⋯).

2. Enter the percent deduction for late work and select the length of the grace period, either by entering a number of days after the due date or choosing a specific end date.

3. After adding a grace period, click “Save” to publish your changes.

As with due dates, the due date management history will open, and you’ll receive an email confirmation once the update is recorded.

Change due dates and grace periods

If you’ve already set due dates or grace periods and want to update them, simply make your desired changes then click “Save.”

When you change a due date, your students’ work will automatically be rescored based on the new date. If your webtext is integrated with an LMS, your students’ updated scores will automatically be redelivered to the grade center.

Students are notified whenever you change due dates or grace periods.
