To get started linking the webtext to your course in Blackboard Learn, follow the steps below. If you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to contact our LMS specialist at lms@soomolearning.com.

Connect the webtext to a copied course

If you copy or import course content that includes webtext chapter links, your new course will automatically be linked. Click any webtext link in your new course to see what’s new, add notes, or manage due dates.

Note: If you are not using the same webtext title this term, you will need to delete the webtext links that were copied and use the linking instructions below for a new course shell.

Connect the webtext to a new course

Log in to your Blackboard course as an instructor and then navigate to Content in the left-hand menu.

Course page in Blackboard with an arrow pointing to the Content option in the left menu.

Hover over Build Content and select the Soomo Webtext Linking Tool.

If you don’t see the Soomo tool here you can reach out to your LMS admin to have them install the integration with these instructions.

Content page in Blackboard with an arrow pointing to the Build Content dropdown with the Soomo Webtext Linking Tool option highlighted.

You’ll see a list of webtexts to choose from that Soomo has prepared for you.

Select the webtext you’d like to link, then select to confirm this webtext for your course.

There will now be links to the webtext that match the Soomo grade items generated for your course in the Content section of your Blackboard course. Both you and your students will be able to access the webtext via these links.

Pro tip: After selecting the course to link, you may see a Blackboard page stating, “The specified resource was not found, or you do not have permission to access it.” You can ignore this warning and return to your Blackboard course shell.

Create an additional link to the webtext (optional)

Navigate back to the content section using the menu on the left side of the course.

Course page in Blackboard with an arrow pointing to the Content option in the left menu.

Hover over Tools and click More Tools. Then select Soomo Webtext Course Tool.

Content page in Blackboard with an arrow pointing to the Tools Menu, with the More Tools and Soomo Webtext Course Tool options highlighted.

Now you can name the link. We suggest something like “Soomo Webtext.” Then set the Available option to Yes to enable the webtext for your students, and then click Submit.

Link Information page in Blackboard with the Link Name as Soomo Webtext and an arrow pointing to Yes next to the Available option.

There will now be a link to the webtext within the Content section of your Blackboard course. Both you and your students will be able to access the webtext via this link.
