What happens to my notes when the webtext is updated?

How to review and update notes after content changes

Written by Alyssa

When you teach with a webtext from a prior term, your notes from that term are imported automatically. Because we regularly update webtext content for clarity, currency, and accuracy, some imported notes may no longer align with the updated text.

If any of your notes are attached to webtext content that has been changed, we flag them so you can check whether they still apply or need to be updated.

Outdated notes

Outdated notes are notes attached to webtext content that has been updated.

These notes appear on both the webtext page and in My Notes with an orange marker for instructors. Outdated shared notes are still visible to students but are not marked with the “Webtext updated” label.

You can review these notes to decide whether they still apply to the updated text. If you’d like, you can edit the note or unshare it using the three-dot menu in top right of the note, which will clear the “Webtext updated” label.

Detached notes

If your note was attached to content that was removed in the new edition of the webtext, the note becomes detached and is no longer visible on the webtext page. Students cannot view detached shared notes.

Instructors can still review detached notes in My Notes. Click the View detached notes button to access them.
