How do response boards work in the webtext?

Understanding how students interact with response boards within the webtext, how to view their responses, and how to leave feedback

Written by Alyssa

Response-board questions are open-ended prompts that ask students to share their opinions and support their thinking with reasons or examples. They are designed to promote reflection, help students engage with course content in their own words, and encourage them to consider other perspectives.

After students submit their answers, they can view and compare their classmates’ responses. This encourages them to consider the question independently before reviewing other perspectives.

How to find all response boards in a webtext

Students encounter response boards as they appear throughout the webtext. For instructors, an Index of Response Boards is available at the bottom of the webtext’s Table of Contents.

The index provides a list of each response-board question in the webtext, along with a link to the corresponding page.

How students submit their responses

Students type their responses and click Post when they’re ready to submit. The webtext automatically saves their work as a draft while they write.

After posting, they can view responses from their classmates.

They can also click Unpost & Edit if they’d like to revise their answer and submit it again.

How instructors view responses and leave feedback

You can view student responses on the webtext page by selecting Show responses beneath the question.

You can also choose Give feedback on responses, which opens the question review screen in Analytics. From there, you can review responses and leave feedback, including commenting, pinning, and unposting.

To access the question review screen from an individual student’s work in Analytics, select View All Responses next to the question.
