How do vocabulary terms and references appear in the webtext?

Learn how students view definitions and references as they read

Written by Alyssa

As students read through their webtexts, they can click on highlighted words to reveal definitions for key concepts and terms. This keeps essential vocabulary right in context, allowing students to stay focused on the reading without needing to leave the page.

Similarly, students can click on in-text citations to see additional source information.

Vocabulary terms and glossary

Vocabulary terms in the webtext appear in bold with a dotted underline. Clicking a term reveals its definition.

Some webtexts include a glossary. When a glossary is available, there will be a link to it at the bottom of the webtext’s Table of Contents.

The glossary lists all vocabulary terms used throughout the webtext, along with their definitions and links to the pages where they appear.

If a term is included on more than one page, each page is included in the glossary entry.

In-text citations and references

Some webtexts include in-text citations. Clicking a citation reveals the full reference, which can also be copied.

If a webtext uses in-text citations, there will be a link to a References page at the bottom of the Table of Contents.
